This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS is believed to be a true RS/SS car with a period-correct 396ci V8. This is your ticket to a true '60s muscle car driving experience, complete with modern upgrades. The styling of the 1968 Camaro was very similar to the 1967 design with some new updates for the 1968 model. With the introduction of a fresh-air inlet system, the side vent windows were deleted. Side marker lights were added on the front and rear fenders as part of safety requirements for all 1968 vehicles. It also had a more pointed front grille and divided rear taillights. There were 27,884 SS units produced during the 1968 production year, making the '68 models a little rarer than the other first-generation years.
This muscle car is powered by a period-correct 396ci Big Block V8 engine that has been bored twice. Pull through gears with its floor-mounted Hurst shifter connected to a 5-speed TKO 600 manual transmission. Atop the motor is an Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap intake manifold mounted to a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. Headers and true dual exhaust dumping behind the rear wheels have been installed on the car. The engine bay has been cleaned up and has lots of chrome parts, including a Holley air cleaner, Chevrolet branded valve covers, power steering pump, AC compressor, alternator, and serpentine system. An oversized aluminum Moroso radiator has been installed along with a Street Fire ignition control box, an MSD Street Blaster coil, and an MSD distributor. In the rear you will find a 12-bolt rearend. A new air-conditioning system has also recently been installed.
This Camaro SS features RS style hideaway headlights and the iconic SS badging. The car sits on chrome 17-inch American Racing Torque Thrust wheels mounted with 215/50 Toyo tires in the front and 275/40 Toyo tires in the rear. Stopping power is provided by Classic Performance Products 4-wheel disc brake conversion with red-painted calipers. Up front sits CPP 6-piston 14-inch front cross-drilled and slotted disc with CPP 4-piston 13-inch cross-drilled and slotted disc in the rear. This Camaro has Corvette-style spindles with tubular control arms and adjustable coil-over suspension up front and original style multi-leaf springs in the rear.
This Camaro SS comes in a striking Matador Red paint job accented by the D90 white hockey stripe across the hood and down the side of the doors. The vehicle was repainted at some point throughout the years and still shows great overall. The seller notes that there are minor paint imperfections throughout the car. Paint chipping areas include the rear spoiler, edges of both doors, edges of the hood, above the driver-side headlight, and below the driver-side mirror on the door. There is also a light scratch on the passenger side front fender, some paint bubbling on the lower passenger side door, and some rust present on screws in the chrome trim. Please review detailed photos to see more of these areas.
Inside this Camaro, you will find a black interior that retains its original charm while offering improved comfort and styling. TMI Sport R Pro-Series low-back bucket seats with black leather and houndstooth inserts have been installed in the front while a TMI Sport R Pro Series rear bench seat with black leather and matching houndstooth inserts. All interior panels, headliner, carpet, dash, gauge cluster, and steering wheel are in great condition. Some aftermarket gauges have been mounted underneath the dash displaying your water temp, battery volts, oil pressure, and fuel levels.
